Real Madrid are monitoring Riccardo Calafiori as a “plan B” to Leny Yoro.

Real Madrid has reportedly set its sights on Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori, according to a La Gazzetta dello Sport report on Friday. The young Italian impressed with his performances at the UEFA Euro, and his price tag is expected to be no less than €40 million.

This news comes amidst speculation that Juventus is also interested in Calafiori. Given the source of the report, it’s possible the information is being strategically leaked by the player’s agent or Bologna itself to increase his value ahead of a potential transfer.

Regardless of the motive behind the report, Real Madrid’s need for defensive reinforcements is genuine. Nacho Fernandez’s departure has left a void, and Eder Militão’s struggles following his ACL injury raise concerns. David Alaba’s own knee injury further complicates matters, casting a shadow over his ability to return to peak form considering his age.

Lille’s Leny Yoro remains another option on Real Madrid’s shortlist, but Calafiori could be a serious contender as the club seeks to solidify its defensive line.
